There is a hebrew proverb:
״להצלחה אבות רבים, אבל הכשלון יתום„
the success has a lot of fathers, but the failure is an orphan.
People are quick to present themselves as responsible when the results are positive, but refrain from taking responsibility when the results are negative.
When they are negative, people will blame eachother instead of dealing with the problem.
That's the scene in a nutshell. I purposely changed his wording from "you" to "we", to include himself, showing that in some way he does realize that he's at fault.
I never liked the sympathetic villain trope, so I find myself making more and more minor changes to make CT feel less like a villain, and more like somebody going through all the stages of grief.
